LinkedIn Proposed Connection Scam from Glenn Nesbitt

April 23rd, 2012 2 comments

I got an email from LinkedIn today informing me that someone had sent me a LinkedIn Message:

“Hi Brad – Just a quick one, I wanted to run a penny stock deal by you and get your thoughts on it. Shoot me your email and I will send you full details. The last one paul sent me we did amazing on. Look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Glenn K.”

I have no idea who a Glenn K Nesbitt and after a minute of searching for him, I didn’t see him anywhere online. Beware a scam like this where someone is going to be asking you for money or telling you to invest your money after you respond. Or he may just be collecting legit email addresses to sell to a third party, so if you respond, he’s likely to have your email address… Anyone else get this?

Another Craigslist Scam – Though Less Harmful

January 17th, 2012 No comments

This scam is an entirely different flavor. The scammer will send you an email expressing interest, and then when you respond, you’ll get an email like the following (more of an advertisement than anything else):

Ok, thank you for getting back to me. Actually i can't really get it now anyhow… my son just crashed the back of my jeep and now im gonna need to find out how much the damage will be to repair it. UGH!

Im so happy he didn't get hurt but of course it needed to happen now, when i am finally earning really good money with this home income program ive been using. You know, if you want, they've just opened up 3 more positions in our area. Basically you make money by posting links on the internet, its really easy and I just do it while watching TV.

Here's the link if you wanna check it out:

--link removed--

Ive earned around $800 a week since I began… not enough to stop working yet but i finally have some extra money in my bank account. Well, probably not after i get the mechanic bill lol. My sister is planning on signing up later and these positions usually go fast, so Id appreciate it if you didnt share the link with anyone else. Thanks!

Wish there was a better way to keep fraud and scams off good, useful sites like Craigslist!

Craigslist Scammer – Used Cars – Diffy B James diffjames6@gmail.com

November 25th, 2011 94 comments

Diffy B James, professional scammer, sent me these three emails:

Email 1
Hello, i saw your advert on Craigslist, will like to see more pics and what is your firm price ??

Email 2
Thank you for getting back to me, sorry for the late response due to the nature of my work, can you assure me that it’s in good condition because I don’t want to be disappointed buying this from you. I’m ready to pay your asking price but due to the nature of my work, i will not be able to come for the inspection because I’m an oceanographer, I can’t make any calls right now, I would have called you and discuss about this transaction, sorry for that but I’m able to access email anytime as I’m making use of PDA on sea, so the only quickest payment option is PayPal, I make the payment via PayPal since I’m requesting this transaction to be done via PayPal, i will be responsible for all the PayPal fee/charges on this transaction and if you don’t have an account with PayPal, its pretty easy, safe and secured to create. Just log on to www.paypal.com. I hope we can make the deal as fast as possible? I have a Pick Up Agent that will come for the Inspection and take care of every necessary paper for me. the Pick Up Agent will also handle the pick up after i have send the money to your PayPal account, will like to see more pics.

I need the address where the agent will meet you and your PayPal email address so i can send the money now.

Many Thanks

Email 3 (in response to me calling him out)
I told you earlier, I’m out of state, I’m offshore and there is no way for me to come up with the cash, PayPal is reliable, secured and a fast way to pay money online moreover i don’t have the money in CASH and I cant travel with such huge amount, I can only pay via my VERIFIED PayPal account because I can’t go around with such huge amount, if you don’t have an account with PayPal kindly go towww.paypal.com you will be instructed on how to create a new account and get back to me when that is done. . kindly send me your PayPal email address so i can send the money to you now.
Best Regards

Don’t fall for his paypal scam!

eBay safe.purchase@representative.com is a SCAM

October 19th, 2010 16 comments

One of the BIG ebay/Craigslist scams going on right now convinces victims of the scam to send money to an “eBay representative”. THIS IS A SCAM. The scammer convinces the customer to enter the transaction by sending emails that look like legitimate eBay emails from this email address: safe.purchase@representative.com. This is not affiliated with eBay or anything but a sleazy scam network that steals money from innocent customers.

For more information about this scam, refer to my other posts:

http://gorgando.com/blog/topics/internet_fraud/craigslist-ebay-scam-details-dont-trust-richard-grills-of-london-with-western-union-money-transfer-its-a-scam

Here are some excerpts from a SCAM email to show you what it may look like:

Dear John Doe,

The seller Bradley Morgan started the transaction over the eBay Buyer Protection Program.
We have verified all the details of this transaction, and concluded that this is a safe transaction. Please follow our instructions to complete the transaction safely.

4. After the inspection period is over, the buyer must contact eBay with the result of the inspection. If the buyer refuses the merchandise, the refund will be sent to the buyer after the tracking number for the returned shipment is verified.

eBay Buyer Protection
PayPal Buyer Protection on eBay existed only for eBay customers who paid for their purchases through a PayPal account. Now purchase protection and issue resolution for your eBay purchases will be managed by eBay, for all eligible payment methods. With eBay Buyer Protection, buyers will receive coverage for the purchase price of the item, plus original shipping.

Craigslist eBay Scam Details – Don’t trust Richard Grills of London with Western Union Money Transfer- It’s a scam

October 15th, 2010 54 comments

One of the victims of the Craigslist NFL Tickets scam (see my previous post by clicking here) was kind enough to share with me some of the details of the transaction. I’m posting them here in hopes of warning others about the scam. She was told by the scammer to contact Richard Grills, an alleged eBay agent in London. The address she received was 25 Northcote Rd. London. It appears the address is real, though I don’t know who it belongs to. She sent the money via Western Union, which is also a red flag! Don’t ever ever send money through Western Union or something like it to someone you don’t know.

Obviously you should never enter into any Craigslist transaction unless it’s face to face with the person or you’ve received and inspected the goods before paying the seller. But especially do not use a third party to handle the money! If you’ve found this post by searching the name Richard Grills, don’t trust him.

UPDATE: Another Scammer in the UK that as part of this scam collects the Western Union money transfers is Crystal Delapena of London, UK.

This email was sent from bdmorgan117@gmail.com and again, is a scam using craigslist and ebay- one of the common scams going around the Internet right now. I did check Ernst & Young’s employee database just to make sure there was no other Bradley Morgan, and there isn’t. If anyone has a friend that works for google and can track down this guy from his gmail access logs, I have a few choice words for him…
