I wish I would have seen this before I fell for Him this week. I was scammed out of 500 dollars, along with 3 other friends. He gains your trust and then scams you. Uses phrases like “there are alot of scammers out there…and I want to protect myself”

I have contacted several media forums and I work at a radio station, I hope that my connections along with my Uncle being an attorney in Pittsburgh, that we can find him. JUSTICE WILL BE SOUGHT!!

Anytime a deal sounds too good to be true on Craigslist, I copy and paste the body of the email into Google to see if it’s a scam. And sure enough, this blog popped up. I was trying to buy Chicago Bears tickets. So thanks for posting this. It saved me and a probably many others the time and money. We need more people to be proactive to catch all these scam artists on Craigslist.

I tried to post them on eBay but I cannot accept payment to my PayPal account for the moment. I am getting divorced, and I found out that until this is over I cannot access any of my bank accounts.
I had a work contract in Manchester last year and got a bank account there, my PayPal is linked to that bank account. That is why eBay selected an UK eBay agent for me. He will hold the money until you have the tickets in hand. eBay will send the funds to me ONLY AFTER you will send them the feedback for our transaction (you received the tickets and everything is OK)!
I am sorry if this is a problem for you, but right now I don’t have any other option, hope you understand.

Sorry Sara, I don’t know that there is any way to cancel the Western Union transfer. It’s never a good idea to send money to someone you don’t know. The best you could do is try to report it to the police or FBI, but I doubt they’ll be able to do much about it.

Thanks for the replies. I realize that I sound silly for ever wiring money to someone but it wasn’t that straightforward. I was told that I was sending the money to ebay money agent and that the funds would be held by them while I received the tickets. I then had 5 days to verfiy that the tickets were real and once I confirmed then the funds would be released to the seller. I assumed (yes I’m an a$$) that since it was being done through eBay (and there were 4 to 5 other craiglist posts offering the same process) that this was standard. I even received an ebay email with all of the information needed (I later realized this was all fraudulent).

We are disputing the charge on the credit card and CitiBank and Western Union will need to fight that out.

Is there any way to trace people via email? Just trying to understand how we stop this from continuing to happen.

Makes me sick to my stomach that people have the audacity to pull scams like this.

I was also scamed $500 from Jessica Fraser. I sent the money through Western Union. I thought to pick up money from them you had to have a valid I.D. Western Union is known for not allowing wire fraud. This just makes me sick to my stomach.

I found an add on Craigslist and recieved an email from Jessica as well. I wanted more information on the tickets and I got the same, since I’m not in the area, we’ll do the transaction through Ebay. I think the only secure way to do transactions online is through Paypal, but if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. Sorry you all got scammed, I sent an email back letting her/him or whoever that I didn’t think it was very nice of them to scam people out of their money.

Yes, WILLIAM BARR tried to get me too, I don’t think so big guy! Listen people, craigslist is meant for local advertisements, so if you can’t meet with them in person, IT IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE! This guy sent me a fake invoice from ebay and everything, with instructions on wiring the payment via Western Union. NEVER WESTERN UNION! William Barr at cemaino@gmail.com watch out for this English scammer!

FYI- if you have already sent money to Western Union, call them and ask them to cancel the transfer, they can do that as long as the money hasn’t been picked up yet!

Scott Sakoda is a SCAM ARTIST. Be careful. I sent the money through Western Union. I sent 500 dollars and told my sister about what i did. Since she didnt feel good about the transaction, she called Western Union’s “Security Department” 800-448-1492. Good Luck guys

I have gotten the exact same replies from Todd Braden, William Barr and Jessica Peterson

I fell for this guy back in October when I was hoping to land Giants vs Lions tickets. Lost $500 and had to shell out extra money to purchase other legitimate tickets. I wish I had seen this first! I filed a complaint on him and the supposed Ebay Agent who I confirmed via a Text Message, collected the money from Western Union. Not much Western Union can do about it to help me sadly. There is also an Angelina Williams who tried to do this same thing to me just today when I was trying to land Giants-Eagles tickets for this week. Did not fall for it this time obviously!

I got the same email for 4 BCS Club Level tickets for $500.

It had Todd Braden, Ernst & Young Human Resources. I did a search and found this site.

This guy just sent me the EXACT same thing as “Teacher23″ just posted. I never said I wanted to purchase them! He just wanted my eBay ID, then sent me an invoice. I have contacted eBay and hope the transaction doesn’t actually go through. It says he’s from the UK and they are for NHL tickets… He has multiple names out there including Linda Harmon and Ray Carlson. I know this because he copies and pastes the same email using those names. How can this be stopped?

His name is Ryan Bond and he lives in the United Kingdom. At least that’s where the invoice came from.

He/She actually changed email account now…Its Jessicafraser@gmail.com avoid this…I was almost sucked in except I don’t like transactions from the UK so I told who I thought was a woman I didn’t feel comfortable with this and she should sell to someone else. They said the same thing and in the email that was sent to me it had the same fax number.

He advertised on Craigslist, sent an email from ebay@ebay-tickets-purchase.com and insisted on receiving a Western Union wire transfer to Peter Molnar, 38 Crown Street, London SW15 8RA
He had cut and pasted all the cute ebay logos and verbiage, but lacked an ebay name, feedback link, etc. Said he was having technical difficulties with Paypal.
Fortunately it was suspicious enough and I googled bits of it as well as contacted eBay to verify this was a fraud. Saved me $600.
Hope someone gets this prick.

My daughter was scammed today. being young and wanting to go to a game desperatley she believed Kevin Hagans say he is from Frisco Texas. She sent 400.00 western union and finding out the money went to the UK and she has been scammed. Do not send anything to this jerk, we will be turning all information over to the federal criminal department and having an investigation started.

I was almost scammed today too! Watch for the names Mark Tampary and Steve Medlin. I also clicked on the sender name to actually see the address it was coming from and it wasn’t @ebay.com . So glad I googled it and found this forum!

I realized this was a scam before sending cash to Western Union.

I looked up the IP address used by “Cayla Benton” and the so-called ebay buyer protection person asking me to wire money via Western Union.

Both IP’s originated in Baldwin Park, CA.

Yeah they are still doing this scam on Craigslist. It was great to me in sound until the words “Western Union” and Ebay Agent showed up in an email. I know that those are no-no’s. The person is still sending me messages back and forth and even went so far as to send me a photo ID which would have made me think twice had it not been for the exact wording of emails that I found on this page!

The email address they are using is jennielynn.ventura@gmail.com.
